This is a user question. How do people wear a fixed blade sheath knife when also wearing a fanny pack or knapsack that has a wide "lumbar" strap that goes around the waist?

Back when I was doing long distance backpacking (no fanny packs), I carried my fixed blade (ca 4.5 inch blade) in the top side pocket of my pack so I could reach it over my shoulder. Also carried a SAK Champion in my pants pocket tied on with a lanyard. At night, the fixed blade would be in my sleeping bag with me.

On the pack belt, on the pack strap, in the pocket, on belt/under lumbar strap, or IWB

Depends on the sheaths I have available for the knife in question. My preference is either sheaths with belt "loops" that are wide enough to slide over a wide pack strap OR the sheaths have "danglers" that allows me to slide the sheaths onto my regular belt and then the pack waist strap goes over the dangler, allowing the knives to hang below the pack strap.

Thanks all. Decided to go with a dangler style. I see that you can buy them, or you can even make them.

How large is your knife? I'm taking a Fallkniven F1 or BR Bravo 1.

Mora no 1 which is cake around your neck. Occasionally as of recent the Mora Bushcraft, which is significantly more noticeable, but still doable. I believe the F1 is 2oz heavier than the Bushcraft so that may be a deal breaker for you.

F1 and a fanny pack? I'd just loop the fanny pack belt through the sheath belt loop and be done with it.

Yes that would be my first choice as well. But my pack has a lumbar bar that is wide then has zippered side pocket bags...basically offering me no location to easily attach a sheath directly to it. Hence this thread.

That has been a problem for me as well, especially frustrating when I am trying to carry a handgun as well.
