My big present for Christmas of 2011 was my Benchmade Large Bone Collector complete with axis lock, g10 handles, and the ever lovely D2 steel blade. I loved everything about the knife except for one thing. I absolutely hated the big ugly deer/skull on the one side of the blade, and the name itself: Bone collector! I gather that the knife is a collaboration between Benchmade and a outdoor enthusiast, but what are we, 12 years old? So I just grinded the logo and the name off of the blade. I would rather a cop see a big scratch rather than the logo and know that the knife is called "bone collector." If we want people to honor our knife rights, it would probably be a wise decision to maybe think of some better more public friendly names. Kind of like the guys at the gun shop that want me to think theyre mature when they are buying "zombie" specific ammunition and zombie targets...

Pics are a must here. If it's scratched bad try a Dremel polishing kit from Wally World.

I agree. Some of the knives in that series, aren't bad, but the name rubs me the wrong way.

The name came about because of Michael Waddell. He is an archery hunter, and has had a few hunting shows.
I'm an archery hunter, but still don't like the name or the skull logo

I totally agree that the deer skulls on everything are silly. You should really be able to hand sand that out pretty nice to the point where you can't see it was there at all, G10 is good like that. It will probably look a lot lighter, just put a drop of oil on it, then rub it in, then wipe it off. You should find that the spot you sanded basically disappears.

Also, for future reference, in case you did not know: Sanding/grinding G10 produces dust that is really bad for you. You should always wear a respirator when doing it. I'm sure doing it once won't kill you, but if you make a habit of it, definitely wear a filtered mask. I like to just put the end of my shop vac where I'm sanding and let it run the whole time, keeps the dust down really well.

This is the perfect opportunity for me to show these pictures again!

The name doesn't bother me at all. It's marketed as a skinning knife. The "bones" being a reference to antlers.

Much better looking without the skull and lettering. I would like to see Benchmade just drop the BM logo on all their blades and just do a tang stamp.

The huge logos are really the only thing I don't like about the Bone Collector. I'm not overly concerned with political correctness and the last thing I'm concerned about is an officer's opinion of my knife, I just prefer to not have an advertisement etched into my blade. It hasn't bothered me enough to remove it yet but maybe someday I'll do it. That polished blade looks really nice.

What exactly is non politically correct about the logo? You lost me on that one.

Eww, dead animals! Some people are just overly sensitive. I have no problem with dead animals, many of them are delicious.

I really am not understanding the concern about police taking issue with the logo though. I just find it tacky.
