I've tried throwing a couple of times with various success rates. what i've been throwing is a cheap folding knife i picked up at some camp or another. would it be better if i straight up got a set of throwing knives, is is it possible to get good with a folder?

Sure you can throw a folder, and if you get good at it by doing so then great!

It's just that folding knives will fall apart rather quickly compaired to a solid full tang fixed blade. Fixed blades can take waaaay more abuse, and will simply last you much longer.

-With the possible exception of using a very soft medium as a target, like a foam Bow-&-arrow target, or stacked cardboard. But throwing at trees or 2x4's is a great way to destroy a folder.

It's still quite fun though, as long as you don't mind a wrecked knife! :D

Folders are best in the pocket. They do not typically throw well.

It is better to use a knife designed for throwing-temper, size, materials, etc...

You can throw anything with a point but you really run the risk of breaking it.
