I have a larger 7" antique knife I take with me into the bush that I like alot. But I am thinking about buying a New knife that is around 3"-4" blade that I will one day pass down to my son like my grandpa passed down to me. I want a Stainless steel blade rather than a carbon for personal reasons. From what I hear 154 CM and CPM S30V seem to be the best type of steel to look for. So, 3"-4" Fixed-blade and high quality stainless steel that will last a lifetime and is a great knife to pass down. What would you recommend for me to take a look at? Something that I will use in the wilderness. Cost betwee $70 -- $130

Edit: Ok lets tweak this alittle. How bout a Stainless steel lockback between $70 - $150

Gerber Freeman and Alaskan Guide Buck Vanguard both come in s30v and should meet your other requirements.

A Benchmade Nimravus cub would cost right about at your high end. It is an excellent knife.

This knife may not be 7 inches but it's a very stout, well built knife in a good steel ready to go right out of the box. I like mine a lot and I tend to not like stainless fixed blades. This one has won me over and I trust it. It has to be a good cutter for me to carry it as pry bars are great, but I don't really need knives that aren't as tough as a real pry bar, nor can cut like a real knife.

A.G. Russell has a shop made knife in Aus 10 at around 8 inches and below $200. ( I got a 2nd for $140 ish ). Like all his stuff it's very well made and uses great materials. Aus 10 is in the 440C class but takes better edges, might be slightly tougher and possibly more wear resistant but is not as corrosion resistant. IMO, 154cm is better all around than 440C, except possibly corrosion resistance.

You can get a Falkniven for that. VG10 laminated. Very tough knife and holds an edge very well. I love mine. No frills and easy to take care of. Get the leather sheath.
