Hi folks,

I'm wondering is there any mass produced hard beater type stainless knives w/ a 5~6.5" blade length that doesn't cost a arm or a leg?
Something like a Becker tweener but w/ slightly more blade to it.
Are the pricing difference really that large due to the mats used (common high carbon VS stainless) ?

Still looking around for a general direction on such knives. Most likely will be used as a convo starter or as a back up in my BOB when SHTF.

Cheers.

Cold Steel SRK. ~$60, 6in AUS8 blade, some sort of plastic handle and sheath.

Looks just about perfect for what you're looking for.

I dont know your budget but for 200 bucks you can get a Survive knives GSO 5.1 in Elmax. Its a 5 3/4 inch blade and Elmax is an amazing steel.

Forgot to mention that my preferences are, oops. :p
Looked through all the recommendations, and the Survive knives GSO 5.1 in Elmax matches up perfectly, its also got international shipping to boot!
That EDC-4 looks tempting as well...now i just need to work out how to keep this on the down low...hmm.

Thanks folks, cheers.

fallkniven s1 - holds an edge really well, easy to sharpen, better handle ergos than the f1. i always read recommendations for the f1 but the s1 is a much better survival/all-around hard use knife imho.

It's not just the cost of the steel itself, but the cost of working with it. High-alloy steels put a lot more wear-and-tear on grinding equipment.

Entrek makes a few. They're not cheap, but they don't cost "an arm and a leg," either.

X2
I have a 11 bravo that ray added some serrations and a glass breaker. It's a good "little" knife, having second thoughts on the serrations though. It holds an edge well and if you do dull it it sharpens up easy enough that a cave man could do it. I'd look at any of their knives under $150. They larger models, ranger, commando, etc., are a tad over priced besides the fact that I think I knife of 10" is useless, but that's a discussion for another day.

Wow, that is something that I may sell off a couple of production knives for!

I second the BRKT STS-5. Also don't overlook a good combo set such as a a grohmann boat knife and a tramontina 12" machete. If you live in an urban area the grohmann boat knife will look no more menacing than the average steak knife but will be much more durable. Hiding the machete is the trick However in an urban area I would ditch the 12" in tramontina for a Ontario SP8 so that I could have prying ability in an urban area.
