Looking for a large fixed blade for camping... Does anyone have any experience with either the Buck-Strider FB or ML and is it worth about twice as much as the Nighthawk? Any opinions appreciated.....

My opinion- depends on how much you have (or want) to spend.
Both are great knives. I have never had the strider but several Nighthawks!
Very durable! I loved them. I dont know how much tougher of a knife you need! In my opinion any buck knife you buy is a good knife :D!
Good luck
Jim

I have both....haven't used the strider enough....Buckaholic had one on his hip for several weeks....maybe still does.
They both are heavy, built to take punishment .I don't care too much for the G10 scales,I'll be sanding mine down for use without gloves.I'm getting a diffrent sheath for the strider, that plastic is too noisy.
When it cools off around here in a couple of weeks I'll head to the woods.

Thats also a good point Earl,
I didnt like the G-10 on my Buck Strider folder.
The Nighthawk has a very nice ergonomic grip!

Yep Triple-E, I lugged that Strider around for 14 days. After a bit ya don't notice it...kind like a wife (HA HA HA!!!!)

Anyway, today, yep, about 30 min ago the mail arrived and a package from Ira Wood with a Nighthawk was mine.

It's strapped to my belt right now. Gotta go find some weeds or neighbor cats to fell. Will report later...gettin' dark.

Nice Pics Goose!
Good luck with the cats errr... weeds. :D
Looking forward to your report!
Jim

While I like and own Strider products, if those were my choices I'd pick the nighthawk every time. Same steel, same blade length, same blade thickness, and a super comfortable handle. I have one that I have a kydex sheath for and it has lived a hard life and still performs like it should. I just could'nt pay that much difference forknives that are that similar. Hope that helps, Jim

For me anyway, the Nighthawk feels alot better in the hand than does the Buck/Strider.

for the price i've gotta go nighthawk, the sheath leaves a little to be desired but i really like the knife and it's pretty well indestructable. later, ahgar

That pic is too funny!!!!!!!
Reminds me of this guy that was driving a country road and this cat jumped in front of his car. Dude couldn't stop fast enough and, sure enough, THUMP THUMP.
Stops the car and feels bad that someone's pet has just been killed by him. He notices a farm house across the road and goes up to the door.
Lady answers the door. Guy says, "Ma'am, I think I may have run over and killed your cat". Lady says "what did it look like?". Guy gestures his face to look like this:

OK Fly Boy...

Having both, here's my opinion: "Nighthawk"

Grunt Goose.

:) Mass feline genocide aside... I think the nighthawk takes it:D
Yep Blade14....after only a day or two, I prefer the Nighthawk for crusing the 'hood. It's lighter, more comfortable grip, cutting is better as the width of the blade is more tapered to the blade edge than the Strider OX (less resistant or force required to get through...like buttah!) and less likely to draw attention of local yahoos.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still love my Strider Tanto fixed. That is a tank. This Nighthawk is more of a "Rat Patrol" jeep. Solid, yet sleeker.

If I had to choose only one of the two for the knife to last me a lifetime on a desert isalnd with a volleyball named "Wilson", I'm taking the Strider. I think the G10 handle material, heft, heat treating, and overall workmanship will rock when the goose feces hits the fan.

But the Nighthawk is better for all around town/sticks use, the Strider seems better built for hell and if I'm stuck on a rock and the Nighthawk fails, it's gonna be tough the send in for repair. The Strider is like a cockroach in steel...it'll survive a chicom nuke...it exudes solid confidence in workmanship, strength, and utility.

So, for "all around" it's the Nighthawk. For true survival, Ox, my big daddy Strider.

Note: no cats were consumed or harmed during this short term evaluation

Well blade14, the NIGHTHAWK works out just fine by me.
What's there to in the Fix Blade Strider that the Nighthawk can't match in ability?

Okay, maybe the Strider has a slightly longer reach (for a one-on-one) but its handle isn't half as comfortable as that found on the Nighthawk. Besides, reckon you would need a Humvee to lug around that Strider getting across town.

Just my take! No offence intended.
