OK...has anyone worn a fixed blade Buck Strider for more than a day or two?

Hey Goose,
If you find your drawers down around your ankles, perhaps you can carry your new toy in a shoulder slung sheath. They look very similar to a shoulder holster for a handgun, but can be configured for access over the shoulder, under the arm, etc.

Hey Mike...
I would really do that if I wasn't concerned about Paragraph 25(d) as indicated below. Reads, to me, that I have to carry a sheath knife in the waist area to keep it legal.
Given your background in California, what is your "opinion" regarding this?
Goose.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison:
(1) Manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, lends, or possesses...any ballistic knife...any nunchaku...any metal knuckles, any belt buckle knife, any leaded cane, any zip gun, any shuriken [ed: "throwing star"]...any lipstick case knife, any cane sword, any shobi-zue, any air gauge knife, any writing pen knife, any metal military practice handgrenade or metal replica handgrenade, or any instrument or weapon of the kind commonly known as a blackjack, slungshot, billy, sandclub, sap, or sandbag.
...
(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any dirk or dagger.
...
(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.
...
25(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly suspended from the waist of the wearer are not concealed within the meaning of this section.

Goose,
The key phrase there is "concealed upon his or her person." They've changed this penal code section since I resigned 25 years ago. In any event, you could only carry it some other way besides on your belt as long as it was not concealed, according to section 12020(4). This means you'd have to take special precaution to make sure your coat didn't cover it up. Another way would be to carry it on your belt but add extra support by adding a shoulder strap, kind of like the old "sam brown" that cops used to wear in the really old days. (diagonal shoulder strap) By the way, this is the section of the Penal Code that one is charged with "CCW" (carrying a concealed weapon)

As a comparison, here's Washington State's law...
RCW 9.41.250

(1) Manufactures, sells, or disposes of or possesses any instrument or weapon of the kind usually known as slung shot, sand club, or metal knuckles, or spring blade knife, or any knife the blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device, or any knife having a blade which opens, or falls, or is ejected into position by the force of gravity, or by an outward, downward, or centrifugal thrust or movement;
(2) Furtively carries with intent to conceal any dagger, dirk, pistol, or other dangerous weapon; or
(3) Uses any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any firearm,
is guilty of a gross misdemeanor punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.

Thanks Mike...
That is good to know. Appreciate the detail in your replies.
I'm telling ya, I really like the Strider and want to wear it now and then...like when on the road or in the sticks. But sirusly, that puppy is an anchor on the belt.
Warm Regards,
Goose.

PS, speaking of "warm"...when you going to the PI?

Goose,
We're supposed to make the trip next year in late August. My wife wanted to go earlier but I lobbied strongly to hold off until the coolest part of the year (September) It may not be that much coller, but April is absolutely brutal in Southern Mindanao.

Only question/comment I got in the seven states and 4,200 miles I covered in two weeks was in Buffalo, Wy.
"Why do you carry that big knife?"
My reply was, "Because I'm not allowed to carry a gun".
The local yahoo said that Wyoming has a "palm width law"...I said, "call the police" and checked in the hotel.
So, what's new Buck Brothers?
Goose.

Great response Goose! You should have also told him that if you were to spread both palms out it would be just about right. :jerkit:

Thanks Mike...
I thought the "palm" gig was subjective. What if you had a deformed mitt?
I didn't reply in a snotty tone...just matter of factly. Was tired...13 hours of riding and keeping alert for critters on the road from Cody to Buffalo as the sun had set. Got into Buffalo just before 11:30pm and I'm not social on a good day.

Hey Triple-E...
Yep, 2006 FLHRI. My Dyna bit the dust last month so I got the Road King two weeks before I split. In time to put on the miles for the break-in service.
I don't think the ol' Dyna SuperGlide could've handled the extra weight of the Strider like the Road King ;)

Thanks John...
Bike rode fine. One thing is that the Strider sheath would sometimes hit the right rear saddle bag. Guess I could've used one of the sheath eyelets to strap it to my thigh but that always appears a bit too "Rambo" for me. Plus that multi-tool Strider "knife-tire iron-crowbar" doesn't flap around much in the wind! Just knocked the bag a few times when I mounted.
Sorry I didn't get ya that buffalo tail. :( Thinking that now that I'm married, my tail chasing days are over.

Yeah, you really should have gotten it and hung it on your wall so you could at least have a different tail to look at once and a while. :D

HA Dave! You saw the link before I dropped it ;)
Decided that it might not be appropriate for this forum to post vacation pics...even though I had an offer for a free Buck 110 for $99.00 shipping and handling to the one that can count how many times you can see a Buck knife in the 22 pics.

Yep, I dropped it. Pulled into a turn-out to wait for the other two bikes. Missed the kick stand and the bike started to go. Damn thing when folks have those cameras ready when ya don't want 'em around.
No damage to the scoot...went down easy...
