Ok, I've narrowed it down to these choices:

1. Ontario Knives Freedom Fighter FF12 6"
I've found this knife for $37.99...note, the 8" version is $47.99

2. Cold Steel Recon Tanto 7" blade, more expensive...
Found this one for $64.99

3. Ka-Bar Short Black Tanto, 5-1/4" blade
$49.99

4. Ka-Bar Black Tanto, 8" blade
$49.99

Which one should I get, I am not sure if I like the shorter or longer versions, but I'd like to get a fixed blade tanto, any other suggestions? thanks

I have 2 Recon Tantos, one I got for $70.00 and the other was a factory second for $35.00. The quality is the same. Any of these should be good choices. If you like chisel grinds you might like the Livesay Bushi which has a great carry system. If you want a big chopper with a tanto point the TOPS Anaconda is good. Livesay, TOPS, Cold Steel and several other countries also make tanto neck knives if you want something more concealable.

Cold Steel Recon -- great knife. I've had one for quite some time (8 years?), and it still doesn't have any dings or dents -- even though I've abused it extensively. A couple years ago I took it caving and got it extremely wet, muddy and nasty. I tossed it in the garage and didn't find it again until this past year. All it had were a couple of pits underneath the coating. I took the handle and coating off of mine a couple nights ago and am going to put a new handle on it.

In a bigger FB the Bushi by Newt Livesay is my favorite. Not only is it an excellent knife, but the price is right.
The WOO, also by Newt is my favorite small tanto for the same reasons.
