i've been working on a new handle for an old kukri for some time, here and there. the epoxy is well and set, and it has another coat of oil after that last final re-sanding touchup - amazing how a prior coat of oil can show niggling little flaws that, well, grate on the ar-teest in one. i'll have to polish and clean the blade, and i happen to have some nice brown cowhide in my scrap bin to redo the now very old leather and dry sheath - pictures sometime...
today got my special from 1/27 (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=385731), as promised, the GRS had some rust, in fact, has some interesting pitting patterns all along the non hardened portions, and a bit of interesting scuffs (salt?) on the sheath - i'm guessing this has seen some extensive moisture. handle is going to want some sanding and some tung oil too. i feel blessed to have my first kukri from HI that i actually want to "goto town on". oh, and it's dull as sin. i've had a few HIs that were *almost* shaving sharp, and several that were just chopping sharp. so i get to review the sharpening videos and try out some new techniques - i found 3 grades of sanding blocks (think mouse pads with sandpaper on premade) at home despot, 100, 150, and 340 i think. should provide a good start over all. can move right up to 2000 grit emory paper. pictures on that too sometime (bit lazy with pictures, as i don't have a hosting site, and editing for attachments is a pain).
whee! a fruitful day to craft.
