And I'm really looking forward to it!

Things to do; continue cleaning the place up, keep working on the shop, getting it into order; put together a very nice set of shop benches I bought at Sam's (I know, I should have built some myself, but I couldn't resist!); work on rehandling the HI AK bowie.

I wanted to get hold of a couple of new bandsaw blades for the machine out there, but have had trouble finding any the right size. Guess it would help if I had bothered to write down the model number...

The weather is supposed to be cool and sunny most of the time, temps in the 60's, perfect, though freezing weather is forecaste for the first part of next week.

If I have time, I'll try to post some pics as things progress, but we just have dialup out there and such things are very slow.

Everybody please travel safely, and have Happy Holidays!

Andy

Andy, don't forget that you're shipping all of the extra tools to us!

Man, I really envy you. It sounds great.

There's a shop here (been in business for 65 years) that makes custom-length bandsaw blades. If you have trouble getting the right lengths, drop me a line.

Have fun.

Sounds like my week after Christmas. I have been eyeballing that workbench at Sam's as well. May have to get a belated Christmas present. I'l be in the hills of East Texas. Have a great time.

Sounds great man. Have fun.

OK, I'm trying to work around this dial-up thing. Might go slower, but I still mean to git'er done!

Here is a pic of our place at sunrise, looking out from our front door.

Here are some pics of the shop. Keep in mind that this is AFTER several days of clean-up and organization!

I know this stuff is probably boring everybody, but I'm just so glad to be out here I can't stand it! I'm so sick of the smog and traffic of the metroplex.

More to come.....

Y'all know you are free to visit any time!

Man, you weren't kidding when you said it was full of cool tools and stuff. Cool shop. Cool view. Cool place. Keep us posted with pics of how it becomes "yours."

I see you let your kitty have the run of the machine shop. Does she have a union card and qualified to operate heavy machinery?

She's a pest! That's Mathilda, and she owns the place and all that resides upon it.

I intend to make the shop a kitty, puppy, and female friendly place.

I spent the bulk of the day today picking up trash from around our property. I have a rhetorical question for you; what is it that prevents people from picking up after themselves?

Our new property is on the edge of the TX Hill Country. We have rolling hills, big oaks and pecans, a nice stream running through it (when it rains).

So, why the hell did the people who lived here before us trash it up so badly?!

:grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

The bed of the old truck in the above photos is now filled to overflowing with trash, all kinds of trash, from ordinary kitchen trash to chunks of small tin, cable, old ripped up tarps, chunks of useless lumber, oil cans, whatever!

Now, I knew we would be cleaning the place up when I bought it. We will be bringing in a large construction dumpster soon, but I'm afraid we will fill it at least three times before we are done.

It makes me angry, really angry that people can let their land become so... polluted. And sad. I guess they just didn't care enough to take care of it properly.

Embarrassing aside - A couple of weeks ago I was out picking up some plastic bags and milk cartons which had gotten caught in a cross fence. Our neighbor takes his many dogs for walks every morning (he drives a golf cart) and when he passes by we chat.

My hands were full of trash. I commented to him that I couldn't understand how people could trash up such nice land, but I don't remember his reaction.

Recently he and his wife went to a wedding, so my wife and I went over to feed his livestock....

OH MY GOD!! His place was trashed worse than ours! Tires, wire, chunks of old cars, pipe, cable, and I don't mean just stacked up somewhere to be used, maybe, one day. No, it was just lying around all over.

Of course I remembered my comment... initially I was embarrassed, but in hindsite, no more. It's a shame, and there is no reason for it. :(

Anyway, just needed to complain a bit, I'm done now. Thanks for listening.

Don't blame you a bit Andy! I've been saying for a long, long, time that I think the ConDamned Okies are the dirtiest and trashiest ConDamned people on the face of our beautiful blue planet!:thumbdn:  :grumpy:
But I know that's not totally true because if everyone's actions were like the actions of a few we, or no one else, would be able to drive down any highway because of the fast food wrappers and beer and pop cans, let alone the plastic bottles that are disposable and so ConDamned Abundant anymore!!!!:thumbdn:
I remember traveling all around the USA from the time I could remember until 1953 when we moved back to Oklahoma too stay.
All of the west and northern areas had beautiful smooth clean roads and fields and fields of wildflowers. Some of the southern states were a little bad but nothing like Oklahoma.
Back then you knew the second you hit the Oklahoma State Line because of the horrible rough narrow roads and you knew when you were getting closer to a town because of the trash in the borrow ditches along the highway, although it wasn't quite as bad here then as it is now.:(
Now even when you're driving the back roads there is all kinds and sorts of trash and refuse along the edge and in the ditches.
Another pet peeve of mine is when people who fish don't clean up after themselves either. They leave chicken livers to rot and stink along with styrofoam worm containers and their beer and pop cans all along the banks where you can get a line in.:thumbdn::mad:
But y'all have a beautiful place that you can clean up and then keep it clean and hopefully the neighbors won't throw trash along your frontage next to the road.
Who knows, by your actions and cleanliness you may get your neighbor to start cleaning up his place, at least one can always hope ainnit.;) :D
And I'm happy too say that Oklahoma started a wildflower restoration a few years back and that in places you can see the beautiful wildflowers growing almost like they used to be.
When I was a young boy the fields in Texas were literally covered in Bluebonnets, so much so that all you could see was a blanket of blue as far as you could see, don't know how it is now since I haven't been in that area of Texas for a long, long, time but I hope there are still some places they grow in abundance...

The bluebonnets of TX are still blue and abundant! Thanks to Ladybird Johnson.

A couple of years ago a local wagging tongue wrote a letter to the editor complaining about how all the folks coming into Texas (non-natives) were trashing up the highways, and how no native Texas would do such a thing...:jerkit:

Anyway....

Happy Christmas Eve!

Andy
