I would heat it first, like in boiling water (209*) . Then have a block of wood ready to stead it on before the hit . While still warm pull it out, lay it on the block, bend up and give it a tap with a smooth faced hammer . First light and if not enough improvement then harder . Two or three hits should have it back to normal . The heat is to avoid shock and make it more malleable . DM
Boiling water will have no effect on the steel.
Don't use a hammer. Just gently bend the blade.

As long as you don't have some nuclear-powered dishwasher, the heat-treatment should stay the same. The need a lot more heat to affect HT (in the area of the temperatures of the tempering process).Sorry for OT, but that would mean that putting a blade steel in a dishwasher would have no ill effects on the temper of the blade? Is this true?
