I recently found a Case XX Knives 16056 XX Vault Series knife that I really like. The problem is that when I got it, it was really in poor shape compared to other case knives I have. Its not an easy knife to come across so I kept it. The problem is the liners are very poorly ground and do not sit flush in either the open, half stop, or closed positions. The main bolster pin is a little long protruding (albeit slightly) on the non badge side, and the blade is so crooked that it almost slices into the brass liners with each close. The halfstop is terrible because the spring sticks up really badly.....kinda like a cheap Jap knife I own.
Now the positives....It is an extremely nice looking knife IMHO. The spring has a damn near perfect feeling for my likings. Its budda. Believe it or not, the brass liners look excellent with this knife. The antique smooth bone is stained in a way that gives it personality like no other. Portions of the bone look like they were stained with blood.
But because of its obvious inperfections it, became my pocket rider. It's blade and bolsters dulled up pretty bad from being in my pocket, but last week I hit it up on the old polishing wheel. It came out looking better than when I got it in the mail. Frickin stunning. So now I want to see if there is anybody out there that can fix the problems with the knife. I don't know much about Case but they probably wouldn't want to iron out these imperfections, so I am looking for a knife builder/repairer who works with Case knives. The main pin may need to be knocked out to fix the protruding pin and half stop problem. Definetly some grinding will be needed on these liners to get them to sit flush.
Any suggestions?
