Fixing a coat button

Well this is kind of out in left field, but I figure someone here might know how to fix things they wear.

One of the buttons on my wool overcoat is coming loose. The bundle of threads used to sew in the bottom button appears to have become un-knotted.

I have no idea what the completed knot for a coat button is and don't have much sewing experience so I'm at a loss on how to repair this. Anyone have any experience in this kind of thing?

I've done a google search and come across that page. My problem is more that I have no idea what kind of knot to tie the thread into to secure it and can't seem to find any information abou tit.

eh, just get 'r dun... Its only a button after all. And thread is easy to cut if it comes out looking like a monkey fist.

Field expedient. Get a length of fuze wire and thread it through the button and the coat material two or three times, then twist it off to secure.

Next, find a nice homebody lady, show her your miserable repair effort, then make soulful eyes at her and plead total incompetence at sewing.

Coat will be good as new in a flash.:D
