Fixing Cho Creep/Removing Makers mark

OK, started modifying the bolster for this khuk, to make it more of a traditional style, ten noticed something else. As per most Khuks now(including the giant non HI khuk in taht other thread on the Ebay auction) this AK has some noticable Cho Creep. So grinding blade down a bit from tang side to try to deal with this. My problem is, the Kami's mark will then be covered up. Not the initials, but his mark(star of David in this case, as i'ts a KM khuk, though blem'd as it's actually marked LM). I'm not removing his initials, and the Devangari HI on the spine is still there, so in no way am I trying to pass it off as my own work, or remove evidence that it's an HI knife. WIll I still suffer from bad karma or anything from removing his mark?

No. Fix the knife the way it should be while you have it tore down. I would and wouldn't think twice about it.:D

No. Just be sure to align the drive wheel of your grinder from east to west and perform all of your grinding by the dark of the new moon.

And don't forget to adjust for declination.

Glad to get the support. Was worried might offend people

My shop/tools aren't properly consecrated(assuming that's right word), but hope to dow hat justice I can to the Kami's work.

Used masking tape to give line to work with, basically set it just about below initials, even there, which leaves a noticable gap betwen bolster and start of cho, cuts almost an inch off the cho creep. Will end up with like a 14-14.5" AK, but think it will look good when I get it done. Least, assuming I handle it well. haven't decided on that one if I'm going to attempt to reusing original handle or do a new one.

You will suffer great amounts of bad karma. I am deeply offended that you wish to change a kami's handiwork.

Send me the khuk and all will be forgiven.

:D

If you're going to rebuild the knife...are you going to give the blade a new finish? Perhaps you might consider grinding off the makers mark all together to not confuse....just a thought....

I'm sittin' on the fence on this one...

I haven't decided on the finish yet. But still, hate to take off the makers mark. I'm putting a lot of work into this, but the forging and heat treat are soul of a knife, for my taste, and I'm not touching those(which of course requires frequent dunks to keep it from getting too hot). Taking off the makers mark just strikes me too much like the guys who take kit knives, remove the Darrell Ralph or other markings, and try to claim it as their own. Not trying to do that.

agreed....that's why I'm on the fence about it.

Spent some time with Bill Marsh this weekend and he showed me his extensive Kris collection. The soul of the kris is in the blade, so it's no big deal for people to completely rehandle an old blade. I really like that idea (especially since I'll be rehandling a few khuks myself in the not-too-distant future).
