Just received a wonderful 18 inch Kobra from Uncle today.
It is the lightest khukuri I have ever held. And it seems more distally tapered than the 18 inch Gelbu Special that I received simultaneously (or are my eyes deceiving me?).
I like it very much. It has made me fantasize more about a very slender one at about 20 inches... As slender as those khukuris I saw here a while ago made from old files.
Now, I intend to give it away to a friend of mine who is into martial arts. So I want it to be just about perfect. Therefore I think I would like to fix a hole in the sheath, which for me is rather unimportant, but since it is a gift to someone else it becomes important.
On the backside of the sheath there is a hole which is ovaloid in shape. It is 1,2 cm long and 3 mm at it's maximum width.
My friend is not going to bring this one out into the forest as I am going to forbid him to do any chopping with it. He is just going to keep it in his home and possibly bring it to his dojo some times. So this will just be an aestethic fix that doesn't need to hold up against days of rain and ice and such.
Does anyone have any advices for how to cover the hole?
I thought black tape, but that really sounds ugly.
