Fixing play

I have a 940 osborne that I took apart. After I took it apart I noticed there was more play. I've heard of the sweet spot but the blade requires 2 hands before it gets to that point:(. Is there any way I can fix this?

I noticed there was a very fine line... very small adjustments near that 'sweet spot', then thread locker or teflon tape to keep it there.

Just keep trying with very small adjustments. You should be able to get most/all of the blade play out and still have a flickable knife.

You did put the washers back in didn't you? Taking it apart and then reassembling should not change how loose the blade is, unless you forgot to put something back in or when putting it back together, you may have misaligned something.

I have the same knife and I can't for the love of me find that sweet spot. So I tightened the pivot until there was no more blade play. The knife is still flickable but the blade is a little stiff.

Doesn't do that. the blade gets 2 handed and there's still wobble.

Every part was put back in except the back screw for the liner which I can't comprehend why that would affect the blade play.

I would disassemble it again paying attention to everything you take off. Clean all parts, reoil, and reassemble. Was there a reason you did not put the back screw in? Sometimes it is a simple misalignment and redoing it will fix it up. If it was tight before you took it down it should not become that loose unless it is not aligned correctly. Good luck on it!

It a....fell:rolleyes:. I'm really scared about taking it apart again. Last time it took me a week to fix a spring that went under the liner.

Interesting. I have the same knife took it all apart and put it back together with no problems. What does "the blade requires 2 hands before it gets to that point" mean? As for the teflon tape i find that wrapping the pivot screw about 3-4x around does the job.

It becomes so stiff it takes 2 hands to open before the blade stops wiggiling.

When you put the washers back in did you put them back the same way as when you took them off? The washers are only lubed on one side (on the side toward the blade), if you put them on the wrong way (lube side away from the blade) they will move with the blade when opening instead of staying static; putting them on the wrong way will make it harder to open the blade (way less smooth/fluid). When i took mine apart i made the mistake of lubing both sides. Had to take it apart 2x to get it right. Again only ONE side of each washer should be lubed.
