Fixing scale on an old Boy Scout knife

I recently picked up this old Boy Scout knife. It's in decent condition except on one side the scale has two out of three pins broken, so the scale is loose and pivots around that one pin (it's the center pin).

Would it be ok to use some adhesive to fasten it back in place? I assume replacing the pins would be best but I have zero experience at that sort of thing.

Here is a short gif showing the knife and the damage scale: http://www.gfycat.com/NarrowMeaslyAplomadofalcon

Notice how much the scale has shrunk?
That's why the pins are broken.
You can glue it in place, but it will still be too small to fit properly. A good epoxy will work. Make sure both surfaces are clean.

Naturally I think in terms of what I would do.

I would remove the old scales (break them off, not remove the spring pin). Then I would give the liners under the scales a good cleaning. Then I would make new scales.

The new scales could either be attached with epoxy, or, the original holes in the liners for the scale pins could be tapped and the new scales could be attached with screws.

I would grind the ends of the spring pin down a little, then drill a shallow hole in the liner side of the new handle scales to accommodate the ends of the spring pin.

This could all be done without dismantling the knife.

Anyway, that's what I would do ;).
