fixing the bk2 stock sheath question.

Well, the title says it all, I've been thinking about replacing it with a leather sheath but before I do that...I was wondering if there's any way to fix the rattle of the stock sheath, I mean, I don't hate that sheath since it's pretty cool but I can't stand the way it rattles. I was wondering if there's a way to treat it as a kydex sheath and by that I mean heating it and put it in the press.

Need help here.
Thanks

My Bk14 sheath had a little rattle and week retention. I put a layer of blue masking tape on the blade and heated the "middle" of the blade area with a heat gun and placed a Plastic quick clamp on the hot area until it cooled. I did the same thing around the choil area to tighten up the retention. I would guess one could do the same thing to the BK2 sheath. I'd be careful not to go to tight, as it may leave marks on your blade. Hope this helps

Thanks cschol, I wanted to see if anybody had tried something like that. So that took care of the rattling on your bk14?

It did for the most part. If i shake it real fast it might rattle a little or it may be my wrist rattling...It really helped the retention, thats what I was really going after..

I think it's also getting the edge dull...too bad. I really like the sheath but I spent a long time sharpening my knife and now I gotta do it again >:(

I sent en email to kabar but I really doubt they care about my issue.

You might be surprised, they have been known to take care of their customers. Is your BK2 an older one with the logo stamped into the blade or new with laser etching.

check this out, it will solve all your problems...
I just made a leather one for mine..

thanks man! Actually they responded and told me that the sheath has less glass content and that it shouldn't dull the edge (but mine does) they did say I could purchase one of those...I like the leather ones a whole lot better for this knife. Can you post a pic of the sheath you made?

Here is my BK2 duel carry sheath.

I use moleskin. Even a tiny little piece in the throat of the sheath stops the rattle. A couple thin strips of duck tape also work.

watched all of these videos as well as others I could find. Made a few for smaller knives to get the hang of things and not waste alot of leather if I screwed something up beyond repair. Just trial and error I guess, but there is a pile of leather under my bench of botched jobs or left handed sheaths that I didn't pay attention to my pattern..... this is only my second keeper out of many attempts.

Oh yeah, I've watched his vids, I'm going for the kydex/leather sheath. I got wet forming figured out, I'll try the pouch version later on. Would you mind posting pix of the back of the sheath?

Thanks!

Nice, thanks. I hope you don't mind I'm going for the same type of sheath. I'll cut and wet form the leather today.

Hope I mind! now way man I'm flattered, that someone uses one of my creations. good luck and make sure you show the pictures when its done.

Well, it's a pretty easy but nice design. I cut the leather and wet formed it today and I'll dye tomorrow. Can't wait to finish, I really like working with leather.

Finally, here it is...took me about two week, it's not perfect but it sure gets the job done, the straps are close together because eventually I will make a pouch to attach it there.
Judge kindly please lol.

Thats pretty sweet! I really like the Sam Brown stud. I picked up a couple last week, Haven't decided what to use them on yet. Maybe the current project for my Ka-Bar 1217. Is this your first attempt at leather sheath making?! Nice work! I like the contrasting straps.

I like that sb stud better than a snap. Yep, this is my very fist sheath but I do have a bit of upholstery experience which made it easier.
Thanks!
