Fizz Treatment

I really like Matt Cucchiara's Fizz treatment. I was wondering if anyone here has tried to perform this treatment themselves and if so, how did it turn out.
I was thinking of going down to Home Depot and picking up a tabletop drill press and attempting it on some scrap metal and if it turns out, try it on some of my plain metal handled knives. Would I need special bits for titanium?
