Ladies and Gentlemen,
It seems there are many here who plan a vacation here in Fla. and have theme park visits on their agenda. The problem is that since Sept. 11, 2001 security measures at Fla. attractions have changed a bit.
As a resident I have(or have had) season passes to many of these parks. The following are my recent experiences at some of these parks as far as knife carry is concerned.
Disneyworld(this includes Animal Kingdom, Disney/MGM, Magic Kingdom and EPCOT):
Expect to have your packages, backpacks, fannypacks and purses and baby stroller compartments looked into. You will be expected to open these and show the contents to the security officers at the gate. I have gone thru with folders clipped to my pockets and not been bothered. Usually, I un-clip them and let them sit at the bottom of my pocket. It seems that as long as you are not flashy, you don't get bothered. It also seems to me personal appearance may play a role. This is what I've observed while checking out the security.
Sea World:
You will be funneled thru a metal detector prior to admission. I would expect your bags to be looked into also. I threw my season pass here in the trash and will not return until they become American again.
Busch Gardens in Tampa:
Same as Sea World, all the way.
Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure:
I honestly cannot tell you as I haven't been since 9/11. My pass ran out before I could get there. There is a distinct possibility I will try to visit while I'm down for the Guild Show. If I do, I'll post the results here on the forum.
Cypress Gardens:
You will be looked at by security upon entering but I've not been bothered by them and have not had to open my fannypack for them.
Kennedy Space Center:
Again, I haven't been since 9/11 but I would expect to leave your knives in the car as this is essentially a military complex.
I sincerely hope this gives some of you a heads up and since I'm off work until Labor Day, I plan on poking my head into some places I've not been to in a while. I'll update as I visit them.
