So I've been searching on and off for a while but still no satisfactory results. Seems a lot of the albums are going FLAC now and I'm looking for a freeware program able to convert from FLAC to MP3 so I can use them on my thumb drive with the car stereo. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I use Switch Sound. It does conversions between any format. It keeps working after the trial period expires, you just have to decline it every few weeks.

Seems to work quite well. A lot of downloaded "live" audio recordings seem to use the FLAC format and this nicely converts them to MP3.
