Today is Flag Day. It commemorates the Flag Resolution of 1777 when congress decided that we should have our own flag instead of continuing to use the British Union Jack. Flag Day is the birthday of our Stars and Stripes.

Nobody else on my street is flying their flag, not even the retired Marine across the street. When the "Attack on Iraq" was playing live on TV like a 24 hour mini-series, the flags waved from nearly every house, many displayed several. But, today, on this special day, nobody seems to care.

Where is the patriotism of those War Time flag wavers? If they were true patriots wouldn't they be honoring our flag and it's significance in the founding of America? Or, was all that "Patriotic" display of a few weeks ago nothing more than brainwashed cheering for "our team" led by government cheerleaders with questionable agendas?

True patriots are the ones you see with flags on days such as today, or memorial day. Not those who just put up a flag during war.

.02 anyways

I don't fly the flag, I have mine set inside the porch window overlooking the street so that anyone walking or driving by can see it. It's there everyday.
There seems to be only one other person flying the flag...a family three houses over.

I put my flag out at sunrise as I have every non-rainy day since september 11, 2001. Brought in the paper, and read that today was Flag Day. It's easier to just make every day flag day.:D

I don't fly the flag every day. To me, that lessens the meaning and tends to turn it into a decoration or a political statement.

When I fly the flag it means I honor it's traditions and history and I have a deep respect for the American ideals of liberty and justice. It means I love the country and all its varied geography and it's diverse peoples.

It does not mean that I honor or respect any political party, or platform, or any group of politicians in or out of the government.

Going down main street this morning ( Saturday ) my wife told me my yellow Gadsden flag was flying from the Legion hall. Gave it to a guy I thought would use it, and apparently he passed it along to the Legion.

For those not familiar with the Gadsden, a black rattlesnake is coiled on a yellow background, with a couple sprigs of green to either side, and under the snake is printed " DON'T TREAD ON ME! "

Makes me feel good to see it being used. Even if I personally didn't see it.
