Flagship knives

Hello everyone. I'm totally new to collecting knives and this forum, so bear with me. Hopefully this topic doesn't make you groan too much.

I'm basically wondering what everyone thinks the "flagship knife" for each manufacturer is... whatever company you're partial towards. Doesn't have to be limited to knives either... blades in general I suppose.

Currently I only own a Ka Bar USMC and a Mora Classic 1, which I would probably consider their respective flagship knives. I'm also looking at getting a Fallkniven A1 and BK2 or BK9, but I also need a couple good folders. I also have a Swiss Army Knife (not sure on the model) and a Leatherman Skeletool.

I'd like to start out my collection with some renowned knives and classics, with hopefully a good mix of different grind types, materials and styles. I also need a new hatchet.

I do a lot of river touring on my kayak and having a compliment of a couple knives and a small hatchet is pretty important.

Thanks... Hopefully this is a topic worthy of some debate!

Oh wow, thanks for all the great responses guys.

Now I need to do some research on sharpening stones... I'd rather avoid the Lansky route even if it's noob proof.

I'm basically wondering what everyone thinks the "flagship knife" for each manufacturer is... whatever company you're partial towards.
Flagship usually means the most expensive, top-of-the-line, best-made model; yet it is something that symbolizes or represents the company and their product.

That said, I think the flagship blades are
Spyderco Military
Emerson Commander
Benchmade 710
SOG S1 Bowie
Al Mar SERE 2000
Cold Steel Trail Master
Ka-Bar USMC knife
ESEE-6
Randall A-1
Scrap Yard Scrapper 6
Zero Tolerance 0560
Buck 110
Busse Steel Heart

Also defined as most important, or largest by Webster's Dictionary.

So if not necessarily most expensive:

Benchmade: Griptillian
Spyderco: PM2
Kershaw: Leek
Becker: bk2
Esee: 5
Cold Steel: Recon 1
Buck: 110

I believe these are important knives in their respective makers lineups, but not necessarily the most expensive, or largest.

IMO, a flagship knife is the company's "top knife". Not necessarily their most expensive, but the one most associated with them, the one most likely to be somewhat known even bypeople who aren't dedicated knife guys.
