I thought I would try my hade at DIY stabilizing.
I have two sets of Flaming Box Elder. One is cut and sanded, the other rough cut crotch.
Using the NorthCoast method, I gave it a shot. Didn't turn out too bad, so I thought I would (wood?) show the dried pieces here.
Before
After
There were in the jar 4 days, dried on a rack for 4 days. They seem dry enough, but I will set them out in the early morning Sun for a few days before putting tem away.
They EASILY weigh twice as much. It's hard to see in the pics, but the rough stuff have a layer of hardener on the outside.
They sucked in about a 1/2 pint!
Now looking for some good blade blanks to put them on. I don't forge/temper so I usually get ready ground blanks when I find one in an unusual style.
