I've got an older #105 Pathfinder. I just ordered a new one and it has a different sheath. When and why were the flap over sheaths discontinued and is there any chance there is some new old stock available. I always considered the flapovers a Buck trademark and greatly prefer them to the new style.

I may have an extra 105 flapover sheath. I will check over the weekend and let you know.
I agree that the old flapover style sheaths are superior to the current snoopy-type now being used. By the way, the current sheaths get their name due to the fact that if you fully open the snap portion of the sheath and look at the profile, it resembles Snoopy's head from the Peanuts cartoon.
I am not sure if the change was made to make the knife more visible, to save money by using less leather or just for the sake of change. How about it, Joe?

Phantom 4,
I do have an extra 105 sheath in flap-over style. Email me and I will arrange to get it to you.

I wish i could think of the clever reason we switched to the current design but i have not found anything yet. My guess would be that since the flap over type used the hide from half a cow, the change was at least partially a cost saving move.
We do not have any new old stock on these sheaths by the way.
