Flash II problem

My SOG Flash II came in the mail a couple of days ago and I've enjoyed getting used to the opening mechanism. I noticed today, however, that the screw on the right side is loose and is working its way out.

I apologize for not knowing the proper knife terminology, but the screw I'm referring to appears to be in line with what the blade pivots out on. It has a slightly cone shaped top with a hole in it. I'm not talking about the hex screws that hold the handle together or the screw that holds the clip on.

What should I do about this?

Hi Civilian,

Let me first of all, let me welcome you to BladeForums.com and apologize that a concern with a SOG product is what has brought you here.

The pivot screw on the Flash knives will turn freely in the pivot hole, but not unscrew from the other side. If it is truly unscrewing from the other side, it would be best if you returned it for warranty repair/replacement.

My Consumer Services staff is always available to talk over issues like this to best assess what might be going on and bringing for you the best resolution possible. Their phone number is: 888.SOG.BEST/425.771.6230 (Option “1”).

I hope this information has been helpful and addressed your concern. Please feel free ask further questions either here or directed to my email account.

Please stick around BladeForums and enjoy this community of knife knuts! :)

Take care.

No, it's actually unscrewing.

I suppose I'll send it in for repair. I find that a bit frustrating, I paid express shipping to get it to me quickly and now I'm having to pay shipping to send it away again to fix something on it already.

This is my first SOG knife and I have to say it's not a great first impression.

That said, I know you guys are a well respected knife maker and, hey, things happen. I appreciate the quick response.

Hi Civilian,

I can certainly understand your frustration. The Flash is a very appealing knife and to then have it not work right ...

The only other option if you wish to avoid sending it in, is if you happen to be adept with tools and can make an adjustment yourself. That pivot bolt is a standard Allen wrench size (the measurement escapes me at the moment). Use a bit (not much) of LocTite and set the screw where the blade gives you the freest movement, with the least amount of blade play (don’t over tighten). Then let the LocTite set for several hours (overnight would be best).

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you...and again, I'm sorry.

I'd normally say use Loctite to hold the screw in.
There's always ones that slip the QC.

if using loctite, i would recommend 222(purple). it works great for set screws and holds until you need to set again. red is a no-no(way to strong) and blue(IMO)is too strong for small screws if you ever need to adjust again(which you will:)

Thanks guys.

This is my first posting on bladeforums; I found the place through GlockTalk, which I've always been impressed with for its helpful and friendly members.

It looks like I've found another fine community of enthusiasts.
