I'm debating between the Sog Flash II and the Benchmade Griptilian and was wondring which knife you would choose and why?

thanks

I have the griptilian but not the SOG, so my opinion my be biased. The Grip has better blade steel than the SOG, but the SOG is assisted opening so that may be a factor for you. My bro has a kershaw assisted opener and IMO it is neat but rather pointless. I can open my Grip just as fast, it just takes a little practice. I also doubt if the SOG is as well made, but I cant say for sure.

I own a Zytel handled Flash II, but have handled the Grip. Wouldn't mind having one one of the these days.

The Grip has 440C steel where as the Flash II is AUS-8. Both are good knives from good companys. It really boils down to personal preference. The Grip is really populare and so is the Flash II. I recommend that you try both out side by side and deside.

Good luck on choosing a knife and Welcome to the Forums. :)

I would go with the Griptillian and not because I have some posted for sale! :D (Frankly, I may withdraw them any way.) The Griptillian is simply a much more sturdily built knife. It will likely hold much better under real world use than the SOG Flash.

I do like SOGs, but This model is one that I'm not too keen on. Maybe it's just me, but I find that the handle will scrunch the middle and index fingers too close together. If you have not handled them yet, I suggest you do before making a choice.
I like the blade geometry better on the SOG. I find that it stays sharp longer than the grip.

I agree with Anthony, the grip is more solid of a knife. I own a couple of flash IIs and it seems to me thier assisted opener is rather weak compared to the one in a Kershaw for example. Plus, just holding both you can FEEL how much more solid the BM is. I would be more apt to compare the grip to a sog vision (thanks Ron) which is more comparable. The Visions don't have assisted openers though. I also noticed that the safety on the Flashes are kinda hit and miss. One of mine works very nice, the other is a PITA to get the safety on or off.
Plus, like someone else already said, I can open my Grip faster than I can open any assisted opener. Very nice, solid knives. (THe Griptilians)

you may want to cosider the doug ritter grip....same as the grip but the blade is S30v....about $100.
