This knife has design flaws and should not be on the market. It's opening mechanism is flawed. My model has been returned twice and is still defective.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your knife:( .
What is the problem with it?

The first problem was a loose pivot pin which caused blade wobble. I recieved the knife back only to find that the blade lock jams when you flick open the blade. Don't you think the tech should have caught this when he fixed the first problem? I should have bought a Kershaw Avalanche.

Pivot pin wobble certainly happens on occasion, much as we all wish it wouldn't.:footinmou

Apparently when they fixed that, they must have mis-adjusted something. Yours is one of the few complaints I have heard of this nature. Have you told the nice people at SOG about your unhappiness?:grumpy:

Sorry to hear about the problems.:(

IMO, if you are unable adjust a pivot screw and/or blade tension, you do not need to be handling ANY sharp objects. how much do you want to sell it for?

The knife was shipped back to SOG yesterday. Apparently the blade lock problem is not uncommon in early production models. As far as not handling sharp objects...I worked in a steel fabrication shop for many years. I am no expert on knives, but I do know something about quality control. Nothing left my shop until it was checked 3 times. Very rarely was anything sent back to us. Nothing EVER came back twice.

Sorry to hear that you are pissed off dude but maybe you want to be a little more constructive in your criticisim without so many attacks?

You may have got a bad knife, you might not have, Sog have good service and quality control so they will make any problems right.

I have spent thousands of dollars on Sog products over the years and as someone who owns dozens of custom knives and a plethora of products from both Emerson and Strider (amongst dozens of others) I feel that I know a s***load about the quality of cutlery.

Let's all try to get along!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions... Fasfan isn't happy, and from what he says that is understandable. Maybe he got the rare and covoted "lemon".
Let's stay away from making this personal; I think we are approaching the line here.;)
We welcome contructive criticism (?) even if we don't agree...:)

OK Bobby...I didn't realize I was approaching "the line". If I was, I am sorry. I was just blowing off a little steam since I expected the knife to be perfect out of the box. On the gun forums I belong to, that is expected and encouraged. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'll just shut-up and get in the back seat.

No Fasfan, not you... I'm talking about some of the posts that seem a little "critical" of you and the issue with your Flash II.;)

I just want to make sure that this doesn't get "personal", that's all. You have told your story and stated your opinions, which everyone is entitled to do.:)

I have no problem with your posts - I'm not overly pleased about the content (i.e. I hate hearing about unhappy campers) but you are not crossing any lines with your complaints.:)

I am sorry fasfan I think Bobby was talking far more about me.

I read my post again and it sounded worse than it was meant to.

I was just saying hold up a bit cause when I read

"This knife has design flaws and should not be on the market. It's opening mechanism is flawed."

I felt a bit PO cause I thought it was more likely that you had a bad knife than that there was a problem with the entire series.

I did not intend to come off like I was giving you **** so I am sorry if it seemed that way.

:D
I was more concerned about the direction of the thread...;)
I saw your post and the one before, and just thought I'd "head it off at the pass", so to speak...
I'm still new at this and maybe I shouldn't worry so much , you're all so well behaved! :D

I think you are right on both counts . I think Fasfan was unlucky in his knife, and probably unlucky (from the sounds of it) with his service. I'd probably be a little annoyed too, if I got a "fixed" knife back with problems...

I am sure SOG will take care of him.:)

hope all goes well "this time".
just curious..., who is paying for all the shipping?
as high as shipping is, it might have been cheaper to either have purchased a new knife or for SOG to have replaced the "bad" knife with a new knife.
like i said..., hope it is corrected this go around:) i know how agrivating it can get..., ever had to deal with insurance company's???

The first time the knife went out I paid shipping and insurance...I think it was about eight bucks. The second time Loretta had UPS pick it up at my house. I must say that Loretta and Mike are very nice folks. I suggested sending a new knife but they wanted to fix this one. By the way, it was the high-end Flash II with aluminum handles and the black-coated blade. It cost me about 90 bucks. It is a very pretty knife...I hope they can fix it. I figured out that by the time the knife arrives back to me it will have approximatly 10,500 miles on it ( it has been across the continental U.S. 4 times! ) I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

hope it all works out for you:)
it is amazing how much a company will spend on shipping and LOTS of man hours to try to "repair" a defect when the cheap way out would be to replace the product and send the returned item to the R&D department to see if it is possibly a design flaw, an assembly problem, abuse of the product, etc, etc.
i am not directing this statement at SOG, as i have had excelent service from them (loretta, ron and mike), just a statement in general about company's...
