I'm considering getting a Flash II as a general beater knife. I'm not a usualy SOG buyer, so I'm wondering if people have any opinions on it? Good knife? So-so? Is the lock-up rock-solid? Does it take long to develop blade play?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have two of them. They are a good general use knife. We had a bad ice storm this week and I used my flash II to clear an inch thick of solid ice off my vehicle and through all the stabbing, cutting and chipping it didnt even dull the point or the blade. As far as blade play there is a tiny bit out of the box but nothing excessive. Go ahead and get one they are great knives.

What he said ^^ :D

All of the SAT knives will have a small amount of wobble. Nothing extreme, but noticible to us knife knuts :p

Excellent knife for the price IMHO.

The blade (despite a bit of play), opening mechanism and lock are great, but I never got along with the handle. It was too thick, flat and generally just didn't seem to be made to fit into a hand. I got the cheap zytel model, so the balance was also way-off.

If the Flash II ticks all your required boxes then go for it, but if you can, you should hold one first to make sure the handle isn't going to be an issue for you like it was for me.

I've held one before; it worked for me. I was a little worried about strength, and the lack of steel liners, but then I always am, to a point where people make fun of me for it.
Maybe I'll get an alum. handled version later on and swap out the blades, so I've got aluminum and a plain edge.

I use a Flash II in my survival class and thus far it has fufilled all the duties it needs to wonderfully. The lock is great, and I've pryed some wet cracked maple in half with it on more than one occasion. Good Knife.

The FlashII was the knife that got me started on this madness, of having to have a new knife every 3 weeks or so :p
I think it's a great all purpose knife, with an easy blade to sharpen.
Oh it's light weight, which is great.

Funny you should mention, dc50, the Flash II was almost my first knife as well; in the end I opted for a Camillus Heat, which I later lost, but now I'm wondering what I'm missing out on.
My PE zytel Flash II is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'll be sure to post a review.

Waiting for the review

Alright, after a day of compulsively checking the front desk for new packages, I've nothing come in. W&W said Friday at the latest, so it looks like I've got one more day to wait.
I'm excited. I'll post the review in the Knife Reviews and Testing board.

Hobo It looks like were in the same boat. :p W&W shipped my knife Monday, they usually arrive Wednesday or Thursday, but there was a card in the box telling me, I can pick up my parcel after 1PM Friday

Its kinda hard to beat the Flash II with that great pocket clip, good blade and low weight.

Good Knife..
Came with blade play.. which is inherent with the design. As I could tell by looking at it closely.. Work's like a mix between an axis lock and something else.. The assistance works well.. But the blade play is annoying.. If the stop pin was moved up a bit in the design. It would allow room for wear.. I might move mine if possible to fix this.. Or slide a tube over it.

For a larger EDC knife it's hard to beat the Flash II. It does have a small amount of blade play has many have already stated but its not to bad but slightly noticable. One of the cool things with the Flash series is that it comes in some cool colors and will make your budies jealous of your blade so you can't beat that if you ask me.

I've had my flash 2 for about 3 years now as my EDC. I beat the crap out of it and its still going strong. Might buy a couple more for the camping gear.
