I have tried to re-sharpen my flash 1 with my sharpmaker but I can't seem to get it very sharp, I've done many other knives. It actually seems to cut paper best after step 2 (flat w/brown stone) if I use the white stones next then it get it duller. I am sharpening at the 40 degree position. Am I doing something wrong? any tips, I've heard over and over on youtube how easy AUS-8 is to sharpen.

I am having a somewhat similar problem with a Kershaw Hawk. 8cr13Mov steel - similar to AUS8 ... also using the 40 deg on a Sharpmaker. I am thinking the original factory angle might have been so acute that the Sharpmaker stone is actually hitting on the shoulders on the steel instead of the cutting edge.

If you guys will get a 10x jewelers loop and examine the edge you will see your problem. You should also always try a ceramic rod on your blades before you remove any great amounts of steel.

Every knife man should have a 10x jewelers loop.

Sometime a dull edge is simply a rolled edge. A ceramic rod will most of the time remove this edge and make it like a razor.
