I bought a Quark AA2 2 years ago for work (I survey ductwork and plumbing systems in hospitals). About 6 months ago it stopped working. I would use the light about 1-2 times a month. I sent it in for service and I get this email:

I've inspected and repaired your flashlight. The cause of failure was a loose clip retaining ring and poor maintenance. Please make sure this clip retaining ring stays tightened down and you wipe off and lubricate the orings once a month. Please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

Can anybody enlighten me on how a loose clip ring and poor maintenance can cause this?

No, I can't comment on that.

But I will tell you that I use SuperLube on most all my lights to protect the o ring and slicken up the thread actions. I have washed (on accident) a couple of my lights and they come out of the dryer working great.

I also use Deoxit on the contacts to keep them looking shiny.

I use the heck out of my lights so I do these extra steps to keep them running good. I have had to send a 4sevens light back for warranty work and it had nothing to do with the way I maintain it. Matter of fact, it is starting to do the same thing again. Some lights are lemons, most aren't.

Make sure you take a pencil eraser to both ends of the battery, and the contacts in the head, spring, and edge of the battery tube.
I think that's what they mean.

The "clip" is in the tailcap which keeps the clickie in. Over time they can come loose. I use some small needle nose pliers to keep them snug.

thanks guys. I am still waiting to get the light back so I can inspect it. Hopefully now I can maintain it correctly.

I've had some lights that stop working or flicker. I just put some dialectric grease on the threads and they are back to working order no problem.
