Curious to know if any of you are concerned with protecting the lenses on your flashlights. I see that Surefire has some expensive flip covers for their lights. Fenix has a cap cover. What do you use? Any other hints or suggestions as to what can be used effectively?

Thanks.

I don't use covers, but I do like beam diffusers when I can find them. A diffuser turns my Surefire flashlights from distance-throwers to close-up work lights.

I have seen people use telescopic sight covers for their flashlights, though.

Bushwacker used to make some that were colored in either red, blue, green, orange, or yellow. But they were pretty much just flip up scope lense covers. You can probably go to your local gun store and find some either clear or yellow tented scope lense protectors in the 25 to 30 MM range. Most flashlight have a bezel of at least 1" which is 25.4MM. So if you found one that was a litle snug it would probably work. Or if it was just a hair to large... you can add a layer of electrical tape around your bezel to make for a snug fit. And if you get yellow, it will work better in fog or smoke from what I'm told. An amber beam is supposed to cut through haze better. I am planning to buy a clear one and then sand the lense with some 2000 grit paper to a milky white haze in the hopes it will act as sort of a lantern type filter. Create ambient light instead of a beam. So I can go from lantern effect to beam in just a flip of the cap. Buy something. I dropped my inova about 6 months ago and now the bezel is cracked. Still have yet to sent it in for repair because I use it daily.

I have never used one and probably won't ever use a lense cap on a light, a sheath is probably a better option and one that alot of folks use any way.
I have a SF E2D that has been used for a couple of years as an EDC and the lense is a bit scratched up from keys and just being used. The scratches
are pretty fine and they make zero difference at all to the performance of the light. I doubt even heavier scracthes would make much of a difference either.

My Fenix TK10 has its own pocket in my jacket - so it shouldn't get any scratches while carrying and it has none so far.
I wouldn't want a sheath on my belt for EDC but the original sheath usually is in my backpack - in case i want to put the light in the backpack or whatever..

My only problem with only using a pouch is that you'll never drop the light in the pouch. The only time you're gonna drop it on concrete is once it's out of the pouch.

if there's anything else in my pocket, i wrap it in a clean bandanna, which i carry anyway, so its "free".

Nothing. If it ever breaks (which I doubt) it will get replaced by Surefire.

Those expensive flip covers aren't designed for protecting it against bumps and scratches. It's normally a filter or beam diffuser.
