Looking for a reccomendation. I'm not really a flashlight guy so I don't know the market and have had a hell of a time finding one that fits my needs.

I need one that fits this criteria:

1. Has a tail switch. Preferably momentary, but on/off isn't a deal breaker.
2. Small enough to pocket carry. Something comperable to a double stack pistol magazine would be good.
3. Has a pocket clip.
4. Uses rechargeable lithium batteries.
5. Has enough output and throw to illuminate a vehicle cab through the windshield from 25 yards.

I would LIKE it to also:

1. Use a high cri light source.
2. Not have a milion and twelve settings. Keep it simple stupid.
3. Not be "tacticool". I wear body armor and carry a gun. I won't be using it for defense.
4. Not cost a fortune.
5. Have a magnetic tail. Rare, I know, but super handy.

Surefire eb-1 or eb-2.

It doesn't have all your request but it is a great light with a tight beam lots of lumens dual output. One for lighting up whatever you want and a lower for filling out paperwork.

I'm really wanting to add an EB2 to my light arsenal, but they're rather pricey. The OP may want to take a good look at Fenix's TK and PD lineups. They're great lights and Fenix is getting better with every year. Also, Olight makes some great lights but they may not be pocketable due to bezel diameter.

My two favorite smaller lights are the Foursevens Quark Pro QP2L-X and the Fenix PD35. The Quark comes with a pocket clip (and holser, and lanyard) and can fit in a pocket. It is about the size of a double stack mag. You can use 2 RCR123 rechargables. The Fenix PD35 has the same battery setup but is a little longer. Not big, but a little longer. I wouldn't carry either in my front jeans pocket, but either in a coat pocket or a cargo short pocket would be doable. Both have several settings but the Quark has a simplified interface depending on the bezel position. When it is tight, the first click is superbright. When it is loose, the first click is moonlight low. Their tactical models can be programmed to do anything you want.

If you want a single AA or CR123 battery, the brightness will be lower but much more pocketable.

and some other keychain lights

I would also suggest a thrunite T20. 250 lumens and definitely pocketable

Actually, I think 25 yards is further than you might expect:

I'd recommend the Quark Turbo QB2L-X for more power and more throw. Tint is neutral white.

Other than the magnetic tail, the Eagletac t200c2 would be a great choice for you.

Doesn't cost a fortune (about $30 or so), 4 modes (or three if you choose), CREE or Nichia, your choice, one AA, and 100 lumens max.

4 Sevens Maelstrom MMR. 800 lumens, USB rechargeable and programmable. You plug it in via USB to program modes. Mine is set at max output without additional modes, but I only use it to illuminate a sketchy part outside of where I work, where bums like to congregate.

I doubt you will find a light that has both a tail click and a magnet. Check out the Thrunite TN12. 1050 lumen, $50. You can buy direct from Thrunite or the big river site.

The only thing i own with a tail button and magnetic base all in one is the Nebo Redline series (IIRC around 225 lumens max), has a focusable lens, i think it's decent for spot lighting at the range you ask and to about 40-60 yards effectively. Out of my two lights with nebo they both need to be sent in but thats after at-least one year of using it to do what ever (hard use). The other nebo I have also has a magnetic base but puts out like 75 lumen max and is more useful for its other functions (UV lights, green lights, SOS, and a laser pointer.) i say has an effective range of about 10-20 yards to fully see clearly with the light output. This would be better for vehicle searches (I'm assuming you in some form of law enforcement by your original request.) both have a "defensive" crown/face plate. When i get home ill post the model of the 75 lumen light.

Edit to add: the nebo i was refering to is the "csi quatro". Also i just found another small flashlight that is very pocketable along with a magnetic base. That flashlight is the Olight S20 baton. There are two varriations, one runs of 2 CR123s or an 18650; and the other is a rechargeabler version that uses a 2600mah 3.7v 18650

I recommed the Jetbeam RRT-0 XML runs on a CR123 (3V not rechargeable) or a RCR123 (4.2V Lithium Ion Rechargable 750 mAh). Also comes with AA adapter for Alkalines (these leak and will ruin the flashlight AKA Alkaleaks), Eneloopes 1.2V (AA rechargeables) or 14500 (4.2V AA sized Lithium Ion Rechargeble 750 mAh). Has a clip, momentary/clicky switch, can tailstand and has a control ring that allows to select different brightness levels. There is also the RRT-01 but this only takes CR123s and RCR123s. Glad to be of assistance.
