You guys know everything so here it is:

My mom has an Inova x-5 and wants something smaller and brighter with more flood.

Do you think the new Quark mini would be better?
Can you recommend something better?

Thanks,
JOsh

I have a Quark mini on order, but have not received it yet.

As a general rule, I recommend to folks something in the Quark lineup for a small, bright flashlight. They are not necessarily geared toward being floody, but are a good combo of spot and spill. Something that feeds on one or two AA batteries might be good for a someone who is not a flashlight aficionado, as they are readily available. And you can get rechargeable AA batteries at Walmart or Target.

Even the small Fenix AAA lights (there are a couple of different flavors) are very nice and put out a decent amount of light.

Anything from Quark is going to blow away the X5.
I say you are on the right track, Olight also makes a great product you may want to look into.

I have a BUNCH of lights....multiples in most rooms....:o

The Quark 123(2) Tactical Titanium sits on my bedstand....it is all a matter of what you want to do with a light, right?

For me, I like the Moonlight feature(very low) so I can see what my cats are doing in the middle of the night if they are rustling around in my shoes or something, without blinding myself, or them.....and turn the bezel to HIGH if there is an emergency....so this light fills the need with about just the perfect UI.

For my edc, I carry a NovaTac EDC120T, and there is nothing I don't love about that light.

I just picked up a couple of nitecore light and have been quite impressed with them.
You get some good stats for the price on the single CR123 torches :)
The same goes for Quark as well, they have a good following and are indeed great lights.

It's hard to say one is better than an other but any Quark light is going to kick the arse out of an Inova x-5 :)

Anything with a reflector will not have more flood. Reflectors are made to focus and throw light, so you get a bright spot in the center (hotspot) and dimmer light around that (spill).

The only lights on the production market that I know of without reflectors are the ZebraLight products. They all come with a headband as well as a pocket clip, so she could clip it to her pocket and use it as an angle light. That's actually how I use mine since I prefer it that way instead of as a headlamp.
