I was just wondering if anyone has had any trouble carrying a flashlight on an airplane. I don't like to go anywhere without one of my Surefire flashligts. This may be a stupid question, but I don't like the idea of needing my flashlight and it being in one of my bags with my knife and not in my pocket. I am just wondering if security will claim it could be used as a weapon. Of course I'm talking about a small Surefire and not a huge 5 D-cell Maglite. Thanks.

I've only flown once in the past 2 tears (non-military that is) andit was san diego to LV. No problem with having a surefire e-2e.
it was on sw airlines, too.

I fly a lot, and have never had a problem with any flashlight. Security may ask you to turn it on to prove it is what it is, but that's about it.

I haven't flown since Sept. 11, but I've been to federal buildings and state courthouses where the security is similar. I've carried a Surefire G2Z and L4 and went through security without a problem. They would ask to see the light and were impressed by them. Other than that, no problems whatsoever.

Flying out of New York after SS2003, "security" asked to see my Pelican Super SabreLite to check to see that it wasn't a "weapon". They didn't blink at the plethora of SureFires (including three 9V WeaponLights)

Even though they always do, try to warn the security that they may not want to look into the reflector when they switch them on. I usually have to show them how to switch them on although I once held up the queue as the security chap gathered up some of his mates to check out a few of the goodies I had.

To cut my long story short - no problems flying with SureFires.

Al

I did have trouble in Atlanta. I had a PAL L.E.D. in my pocket and slid it down with my keys. Tha lady called a guy over who took aside and wanded me then ask what the "black box with the funny dome on the end and button on the side" was used for. I explained it was a flashlight and another security person stepped up and said I was right and that he had one as well.I guess it could have been much worse.

I carry a Nitrolon G2 (P61 assembly - 120lumens !!) on my belt ALL THE TIME. I do get asked what it is all the time too. Both my wife and I carry our Surefires everywhere we go. In airports / airplanes we carry it in hand carry luggage or fanny pack. These days, regardless of the utility of carrying it on the belt, there's no point attracting unwanted attention. When checked, one air steward asked if he could buy my original Z2 Combatlight !! Jason.

I recently flew to KY and I had my Surefire L4 in my pocket and A2 clipped to the interior pocket of my carry on bag. Not a single problem at all. I took the L4 out of my pocket and placed it in the bin along with my wallet and cell phone at the security checkpoint. A few years back, flying out of LAX the lady at security checkpoint gave me more hassle for my cell phone and E2e than my Benchmade 770 [back when you could fly with knives...ah, the good ol' days].
