just gotta share this ......

... i'd just got a pump action spring loaded (using wrist & fingers) powered flashlight, approx. 6" in length, 0.15 kg wt. with one white LED.

seems to me this is very practical for survival, long term emergency (ie. power failure due to hurricane, tornadoes, war, earthquake) cause of its non-reliable on batterries (no storage problem and running out of cell) and LED bulbs (no burn out bulbs & long running time).

the throw is sufficient after two moderately strong pump of the spring loaded lever to power the flashlight for approx. 4-5 mins of moderately high intensity lights to light up my room and find small items ie. keys & multitool (approx. 3.5 m throw) and subsequent approx. 10 mins of illumination to allow me to see the darken room without tripping or hurting muself.

the first 4-5 mins of illumination of equivalent 75% lights the single cell AAA ARC light and the subsequent 10-15 mins. equivalent to the 180 KRILL Electroluimenacent Green lights and this is with only about 2-3 moderately strong pump on the lever.

great light for the 'survival' situation and i'm keeping mine in my BOB.

... sorry that i can't post pics but if there's anybody who are willing to post for me then i'll start clicking my digicam if interested.

... sorry can't tell you the brand cause its not on the light cause i think it's one of those nice little gatgets from Taiwan of someplace like that .. great light though !!! ..... got it from a little DIY (DFo-It-Yourself) shop near my place. ......

Definitely a great idea for emergency backup, like the radios you wind up for news when the power goes out.

There's a Russian pump-action flashlight I've seen for sale in catalogs for a few years, and a more expensive light that works by a sliding magnet inside the barrel of the flashlight.

Go to: gadgets > geek tools > mechanical torch.
It appears to use a capacitor (ala "Forever flashlight") instead of batteries to give a useable amount of illumination time for little effort. I have for some time thought a 1 watt LED powered by a capacitor and charged by a pump flywheel or dynamo would be the perfect emergency light. Now it looks like someone has come up with one. Have to pick a few up. Good gifts too.

Mithril,

the one you're posted is eerr..... not exactly the omes i meant though i've seen them before ....... the ones i've handled were 'pump' using your four fingers and thumb sorta like pumping those wrist spring exercise thingi .... though the concept is the same ......

...... keep them lights shining .... and the mithril glowing too ......

regards,
Bob
