I have an opporturnity to pick a Hinderer Flashpoint up. I am curious if all Flashpoints are hand ground by Rick himself, since you do not see them available often.

If it is hollow ground then it's a hand ground custom, if it is one of the flat ground spearpoints, it's a production.

This is the blade I was referring to, got no response from seller and its hard to tell the grind by looking at the picture. It does look kinda like a hollow grind toward the choil though.

^ that thing is awesome extrastout. You'd be crazy not to pick that one up. They are rare birds. Cool rare birds.

The grind style tells 100% of the story, hollow ground = custom, flat ground = production.....Zero gray area.

The seller said the original owner bought the knife back in 2009 and said "this is from the first batch of custom blades. It's not semi-production". I don't feel good about taking the previous owners word for it.... and the seller doesn't seem to know what a hollow grind is (I do know what a hollow grind is), because he won't just tell me if it is or not. But I will get some macro shots from the seller in a couple hours, then I will get a better look at the grind. Thanks for all the input, I will let you know if I pull the trigger

Have him take a photo with the edge of steel ruler against the bevel perpendicular to the cutting edge, if it sits flat against the bevel without a gap you know it's a flat grind.

Hollow ground blades are easily detected by looking from the tip end down toward the handle viewing the knife pointed directly at you. Deep(ish) obvious inward dish shapes on left and right meet to form the knife edge.

Excellent tip/suggestion.

Guys, let's leave Rob be, he's got a lot of work to do.:)

I'm just having lunch, and helpin' out! When I get done I have to tear into a giant box from Ionbond with all of our new PVD caoted parts.

Decided to pass on the Flashpoint (was not convinced it was a custom) but..........I picked up a custom folder instead :D
