I can't WAIT to get this thing installed. I'm kicking myself for letting go of my armorer's tool. I have to wait until my new one comes in to get this thing on the M&P. Hopefully, I'll have it by the weekend. If you want a new handguard, the DD stuff is AWESOME. It's more of an oval shape than most of the rails out there, so it feels the same as the regular M4 handguards, which until now, I've been reluctant to replace. VERY light, too.

Here's a couple more pics. I got one of the FDE PMAGs from Magpul to try out, and the color should go well with the stock and the FDE EOTech 553, too... :)

Thanks, it looks like there's a gun show this weekend, so hopefully I can get it all assembled sometime next week. I'm trying to pick up most of the goodies from the current SOPMOD group, but I just can't justify the price on some of it. The 553 was a stretch at $539, and that was as cheap as I found. Most places have it around 600 clams. That's almost ACOG territory....

Anyway, I digress. I'll try to get some pics of the install up next week. :D

I'd like to if anybody knows of a reputable company that can handle it. I've had a few local goofballs tell me, "Aw, heck, it's just a little anodizing, anybody can do that..."

Somehow, I think it's slightly more involved than that.... Any suggestions are definitely appreciated. :)

Here's the handguard on the rifle. Installation was a snap, no weirdness whatsoever. I'll hopefully get the rest of my goodies on it soon. I think my new favorite color is FDE.... :D

Ok, transformation complete. :D

This time, added Yankee Hill Machine BUIS and EOTech 553 in the color formerly known as "brown".

Excellent work. :) I bet even Gecko45 would be proud to hang his ass out on the line with that rifle in hand. ;)

I'm following his example... I am now part of a Rapid Response Force charged with protecting a high security manufactured mobile dwelling compound.

:D

I was on another forum telling the guys there that, despite all the HSLD goodies, the only door I kick in is the one on the bathroom after some mexican food. :D:D

Doubtful, I don't believe it has a means of launching frag grenades.

So did the rails assemble tight? No rattle etc.? allowing a tight fixture for the foregrip?

Also what brand of collapsing stock is that? Several generations have passed I bought mine and it is a rattling POS.

The rail is free-float, and it went on without a hitch. You just don't have rattles or wobble in a free-float rail, 'cause it's all one piece. And Daniel Defense is the contractor supplying the military for the SOPMOD II kits, so it's definitely up to par as far as rail dimensions. The Tango Down foregrip is expensive, but it's tight on pretty much every rail. As far as the stock, it's a Magpul CTR. I've always liked the VLTOR stuff, but now I'm a convert. After you adjust the length, you squeeze the lever at the front of the stock, and it locks down tight on the tube. It's just as solid as a fixed stock, IMO.

I have a Tango Down foregrip...which is why I'm so concerned about loose rails. (Technically the rail isn't loose, but when you add it onto the standard heat shield it is loose when you add a foregrip) You can buy a ton of add on rails but for a fore-grip you need something much more substantial than an add/on. If you need a forgrip to just add a light or laser, then the add odds would be ok. Although some are much better than others.

Oh, I follow ya. Yeah, after you yank on the VFG a few times, the add-ons always seem to loosen up, no matter how tight you had 'em to start with. Why are you using the standard guards as opposed to some sort of railed handguard? Just curious, because until now, I wouldn't use one either. :D

I don't think I've understood a single word in all of this thread... But it looks cool, and if you like it, that's great! Enjoy!

Why standard guards? Well, my ARs are about 15 years old and the rail revolution didn't take off until the occupation of Iraq. The initial rail stuff is pretty subpar to what is now available...and I can only keep up with so much. Other than a flashlight/laser mount...and perhaps a forgrip (like the tango down one) all the other stuff you can tack on your rifle is borderline mall ninja for a regular shmo. I just don't kick in doors and do entry team stuff, and the street to street battles in Las Vegas seemed have died down. :)

Adding more and more weight to the AR is an afront to original design concept of light weight...so I've avoided more crap until entertaining the idea caused by this thread/you. Sleep well at night knowing that you may have initiated the steps necessary for me to spend hundreds of unneccessary dollars and risk the wrath of the wife unit. ;)

I've never been happy with the original collapsing stock...your stock might just be the answer. D'oh!

Ah...then my work here is done. :p:D If you need more convincing, the DD Omega Rail, I believe, is lighter than the plastic guards it replaces... :foot::foot: :D

Soooo...what don't you understand? This is a discussion forum, ain't it? Bring on the questions! :D:D

Nice setup, but what happens when SOCOM switches to tactical latex mars red. You'll just have to go buy all the cool accessories again!
