curious what you all think here

put aside the price of the machine and availability of belts...

but wouldn't a 6" x 60" grinder be the best flat grinding tool for a knife maker?
Hardcore makes one
if not, why wouldn't it be?

thanks

No, it doesn't do the job you might think it does. The 2"X 72" machines are usually the ones favored although 1" X 72 is a choice of some. You cannot just lay a blade across the 6" belt and expect to see a quality bevel ground.

I've got a 6"X48" belt grinder - it just doesn't work as good as my 2X72 belt grinder does. The idea the 6" wide will flatten a bevel..... seems like it would, but I find a disk grinder works MUCH better. Maybe it's because I can control the speed on my disk. Also have not found the 6X48" belts in grits and styles that work really good. I use my 6X48 from time to time, but it's usually just for misc type grinding. I've not found a single thing it does better than the 2X72, and most things not near so good.
