The first one out of the batch is the only flat-ground out of the first run of laser-cut BUSKs. I've been working on them on and off between orders and just now got one finished. You can read about my progress on this knife design here: http://bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=367384&highlight=busk and here: http://bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371596&highlight=busk

The short and narrow of it is that I wanted a good all-around camp/combat blade and this is what I came up with. It has a longer handle so you can scoot back on the handle but is balanced (thus the holes in the handle) so you choke up for fine work. Some of the improvements I made on this one was rounded off edges everywhere except the spine (in case you really want to use it as a striker), a lanyard hole, and recessing the handle on the end a bit so you can use it to hammer in tent stakes or whatnot without damaging the G-10.

Other than that, she is 1/4 inches thick and 13 1/2 inche overall of Diehl Steel L-6. It rates out at about 58 and the handles are "treebark"-textured G-10 that are completely removeable so if the gun-koting ever needs to be touched up, it can be sent back to me to be done quickly and easily. I guess if you really wanted, you could hide ninja stuff in the space too. :D

Anyway, enough of my rambling -- here are the pics. Thanks for looking and any feedback would be appreciated. :)

That looks like a well-designed knife to me. Being a ninja I can’t find enough places to hide my stuff and under the scales looks like a winner. Can you rig a quick release for the slabs? :D I like it!

Whether ninja, solidier or outdoorsman, I bet they'll have a hard time NOT using that knife! Beautiful (nice G10 pattern for handle) and functional.

Holy Cow, It's like you mated a Busse BM with A Chris Reeve Project One. Very, Very Nice. I like it a lot. What Does the ancronym stand for?

Thanks -- I didn't intend for it to be a blend of the two, but I'll take that as a compliment. :D

It stands for Burch Utility Survival Knife. ;)

No offense intended, that's just what came to my mind when I looked at. Definately meant as a compliment. Is this going to become part of a standard line-up for you, or more of a one off kind of thing? Also, you posted an overall length of 13.5 inches. I'm having trouble judging by the pictures but looks to be about 7.5 inches in the blade and 6 in the handle. Is that about right?

No offense taken -- you're right on the size it is about 7 1/2 inches from tip to the edge of the G-10. This is just first of (hopefully) many to come. I've got about 7 more heat-treated and ready for final grind and based on how they sell, I'll move on to doing a bigger batch.

I'll add --- CRK, watch out !

The only thing I'll suggest is that perhaps you could consider recessing the entire outside of the G10 slabs a little. That would prevent any sort of damage to the screws if there is impact from the spine side or finger side of the handle. The steel would absorb the shock. Same concept as why you recessed the G10 at the buttend. Its not critical, as I've NEVER heard of screws failing because of this reason - just something I can't get out of my head.

Its a fantastic knife, Michael. Get yourself to some gun shows and I reckon you'd sell those like the proverbial... Jason.

Thanks Jason -- if you look close on the last pic, you'll see that the G-10 is inset a touch, but the steel is rounded out around the handle so it doesn't hurt the hand. ;)

Thanks Michael... Sometimes my eyes, brain and mouth and not properly connected to each other. Just need someone to let me know from time to time. :foot: :D Jason.

Just got a sheath done for one --

Hi,

I have been following the progress of your BUSK; I admire your commitment to the project.

Will you be testing out the knife with different blade grindings (flat grind, hollow grind, and convex grind, for example)? If you have already chosen to put a flat grind on the BUSK, what was your reason?

I will be sending you an e-mail message; I like what I see. :D

Nice work.

Michael, These guys are looking mighty nice!! (and tempting too :D ) Lots to like in this incarnation of the BUSK. As Martha Stewart would say, "Flat ground L6 steel -- It's a Good Thing!" ;) A flat ground primary bevel with a convex edge would be the cat's meow IMHO. :D

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, it would be cool. It would be the bee's knees! :)

Sounds a good motto. Put it on an old-style tin sign with a picture of Danbo holding one and giving the thumbs up. :D

In truth, I do my edge bevels on a slack belt to give them those nice convex edges.

Watching these grow and adapt has been fun! I understand exactly what you are going through.:p

Great knife design. Email or pm me your MSRP
