You might want to go to http://www.collectors-of-camillus.us/ and look through the cataogs to see if you can find out. I know this is not a real answer but there is a lot of info there.

Not a possible mistake.
Coming from Smokey Mountain, it was likely a left over from a special run.
Notice the fuller (blood groove) forging is absent.
Several were made with full blade grinds like this; the Wayne at War series with blade etches comes to mind.
