Sal, I was looking through your latest catalogue and noticed that the G-10 police model has a flat ground blade, unlike the all steel one. Is this so or is it a mirage?
The old catalogue shows both Police models having hollow ground blades.

Cobalt - You are not seeing things! The G-10 Police now sports a flat ground blade. From what I have heard, Sal wanted this model to have a slightly different look to it. This new variation should already be on dealers' shelves now.

Sal - sorry to steal your thunder

Thanx for the help Dex. You can "steal my thunder" any time. It is greatly appreciated and saves me much time. Marketing said we should hire you.

No problem, Sal. If you need a co-moderator to cover for you when you're busy, let me know!

Hire me?! Can I be in charge of the development of the Rolling Lock Military?

Thanks Dex, and good show Sal. Will probably have to get one of those also, now.

What are the advantages of a flat ground blade over the hollow ground?does it cut better,is it stronger, easier to sharpen or is it cosmetic?I have always admired the police model, and with g-10 handles I may no longer be able to resist the urge to buy one.I will bet the g-10 makes it light too.

Matt, flat ground provides one of the best tradeoffs between strength and edge retention. The military and the Calypso are the same way.

Does anyone know of an internet dealer who has the new flat grind G-10 police models ready to ship?
I've been thinking about getting the G-10 Police for a while. I've hesitated to get one because I already have an old metal handle one. Now that it's blade is flat ground, I'm getting one for sure, just need to know where. I've called two dealers already, one for sure doesn't have them yet and the other I can get a hold of. I haven't yet called Ironstone because I think I can get one for a better cost via internet.

I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks,
Ken

I believe the knifecenter has them.

Spyderco is currently investigating which Internet dealers we would like to work with. In the interst of "public fairness", They have to use MAAP (Manufacturers Allowable Advertising Price) which means you might have to telephone or Email for your "best" prices. Sorry, but it's a start.
This Model is currently a low quantity production item (primarily because of the high price, which is the result of high mfg cost. We are curretnly tsting some new G-10 material. Assuming it is strong enough, we may see prices on this model lower. it will still be some time though.
