Flat ground Randalls in 01 steel (or other carbon or tool steel)?

I like the Randall aesthetic and history but strongly prefer flat ground blades for field work. Was there any period of time when Randall did their blades flat ground (either full flat or sabre)?

I have a #14 that has a 'flattish' hollow grind....would love to find a 14, 15 or 18 in flat ground format. Were the vintage knives ever ground this way?

I'd appreciate any info,

Mark

Mark,
You might want to take a look at the Nordic Special -- it is one of the Randall's dealer special knives from Nordic Knives. It is a 7" flat ground bowie.

Mark,

This question was once answered here by Scott Maynard, the current Randall Shop foreman. IIRC, he commented at the time that all RMK models are hollow ground, even those that look to be flat ground.

Hope that helps,

Shel

That's my understanding too. Although, if they're still using that great honking huge wheel to grind the edge, the curvature's going to be very minimal.

Thanks for the info. I suspected they used a rather large grinding wheel as there is very little daylight showing when I put a straight edge against my #14 grind. We'll call it 'close enough' to use without concern. The #14 with the Border Patrol handle and NS guard balances right at the ricasso. Very nice work by Randall.

Thanks again,
Mark
