Fellow Spyderholics,

I have a long-discontinued model called the Flat Iron Folder. It's a little smaller than an Endura, but still a decently large piece of cutting equipment. It's got an integral FRN clip, and is stamped ATS-55. It's a nice knife, and I carry/use it (carefully) on occasion. I've had it since 1999, maybe 97 or 98 (can't remember).

Does anyone else have one of these?
Can anyone tell me when it was discontinued?

Here's a pic (borrowed from Ted's site—Thanks).

Thanks,
Alex.

This folder has always struck me as odd. It seems too similar to the Endura to give its existense purpose. It also has a very weird name, even for Spyderco. What's its story?

I remember it being sold in the Ironstone Cutlery catalog, which was around in the mid-to-late '90s. Good catalog, focused heavily on Spyderco and Chris Reeve knives and other creations out of Seki. I think the Flatiron folder was some sort of Spyderco/Ironstone collaboration, if I'm not mistaken. Somewhere, I have an old catalog that has this knife featured in it...

Sal will probably be around shortly to set us all straight (and correct me). :p
