Hi, I just started trying to make knives, and my bevels came out straight at the top on one side and curved on the other. lol wth? Im using a jig similar to the one Trollsky has on youtube. what the hell am I doing wrong?? Oh, and also my bevels converged at the tip and I had to give it a bit of extra upsweep. thanks for your help.

The top grind is straight because your jig followed the work rest which is straight.

The other side grind follows the edge of the curve of the blade which means you move it that way while grinding

The curved side likely means you have removed more steel one one side at the tip than the other, hence the grind going higher, and the bevel going to zero at the tip.

You might watch keeping the knife parallel to the surface of the platen. If any part of the knife goes closer or farther from your body as you move it across the platen, it can do that.
Easy to do by mistake.

Couple of things that may have happened:

Like Frank alluded to, it's possible that your blade blank wasn't perfectly flat and/or straight. This will introduce some variance into the evenness of your grinds.

It's also possible that you weren't applying exactly the same pressures as you were grinding with your left hand vs. right hand. You might have pushed the blade in a little deeper on the ends, causing the grind to appear curved.

thanks to all of you for the advise. I was probably doing a combination of a few of the things you all described. lol I'm going to start a new one today and see if it turns out better.
