Can someone please post the approximate length of the flat platen on a GIB with a multi-platen (2" and 8" wheels). I'm placing an order for the wheels, and want to get the ceramic platen at the same time.

Thanks!

It really depends on the length of what you are mounting it to. I got the 2X6 one for my platen because it is what worked with it. It also gave me a bit of slack belt above and below the platen just in case I wanted it

Thanks unky - I'm really trying to determine the length of what to mount it to as well. I'm not overly concerned with the slack belt part above/below the platen, but it sounds like an 8" ceramic platen should work on a 9" backing. I'm just not sure what the distance between the two wheels are where the platen will go.

A tangent line from my 3" wheel to my 8" wheel is right around 12 1/2". It might be better to plan once you get your GIB so you can take measurements for your set up, but you can always cut down you glass with a tile saw, so getting the 9" will be OK

These are pictures of how mine is set up

With an 8" and 2" wheel I was able to fit the full 9" platen between the wheels. I have a ledge welded onto the bottom of the platen backing and attached it with some acraglas

Thanks WLoch248. I ordered an 8" one, to give me a bit of space to get a ledge on the bottom of the platen.

Yeah, if you look at the top there isnt much room between the platen and the wheel.
