Flat platen question

How much room do you guys leave between the back of the grinding belt and the face of the flat platen?

Approx. 1/16" of an inch. Haven't really experimented but just enough room to allow the belt to run freely without causing heat buildup is my commone sense answer to your question. Hope that helps you out.
Happy grinding. Butch

No room, otherwise it won't be flat. I position the platen so it's a little proud of the top and bottom contact wheels. If your platen is new, you might want to "break" the sharp edges top and bottom where the belt will run off the wheel and onto the flat surface.

+1. Push that platen into the belt. Works better with a pyroceram liner epoxied on too. Radius the top and bottom as described above.

about a 1/4" past the top and bottom rollors. That's how thick the pyroceramic linner is. I did move it back but like it tight against the belt. I've got a 2 wheel coote so the top and bottom wheels are a ways apart and the belt curve is minor.
