I am looking for tips for how to get a good flat and smooth back (spring/liner/scales) on a slipjoint. I am not asking about how to get the spring flush in all three positions. This is more about how to get the back flat and smooth. I am using a 1x30 and I often end up with broad facets along the back that give a wavy appearance where they intersect, or a slight angle such that when the knife is laid down on its back, it tilts to one side. This is probably not a slipjoint specific problem, that is just the context that I am experiencing it in. I get around this by doing a lot of sanding by hand. I am wondering if my issue is machinery limitations or technique. Any insight would be appreciated.
