Does anyone know if Benchmade has worked out all of the inperfections out in the 42 yet? Such as: deformed latches, irregular holes, casting imperfections, and a few other thing I have heard about. I haven't got one yet I'm like a little kid at cristmas, with butterflys dancing in my head, not sugar plums.

I have several that I would say are up to the old Benchmade standards. I know that Benchmade and their suppliers have been working very hard to iron out the last minor bugs. This really is a complex product to manufacturer.

I've written back and forth with several members of the BM team discussing concerns about grinds and casting imperfections. Thay were very interested and, at least from their interest and ongoing discussion, assure me they are working on correcting the problems. i pointed them to several threads both here and on their forum. After seeing several that were made within the last few weeks, i have to say QC is improving. They are getting sharper, more evenly cast, and with less hand fitting in handles and latches. Things are definatly improving, though I have yet to see a 10 (though several 9+'s). Hope that helps, E

I just recieved my second 42 (gotta have one for the left hand

) and it is great - except two of the larger holes have casting imperfections. No biggie though. My BM42-S pre-pro has no flaws at all. Except where that infernal latch has scratched.

I see no flaws with my 42. There are 2 small pits in the handles, but I probably wouldn't have noticed them if I hadn't known Benchmade had some trouble with the first 42's made.

I take it back... the latch, when closed, isn't as long as the bottom of the handles. I look at my first pro and, looking at the bottom of the handles when closed, the end of the latch without the rounded part is flush with the back of the latch handle. On my new 42 there is a 1/8" gap here.

Other that that its perfect.
