I have been on a Benchmade buying spree lately. And I will be honest, I never cared for them. They just never appealed to me. But lately they have been getting my dollars....Maybe it's my meds :)

With the exception of the Precinct that had a detent hole issue, every single Benchmade I have looked at in person has been flawless. Today I was at one of my local Benchmade dealers and looked at a couple dozen knives and could not find a single off center blade, blade play, bad grind or scratch.

So, I bought this.....and it is flawless. F&F is as good as any CRK I have ever seen...

Anyhow just wanted to add my two cents to the Benchmade QC issues people talk about.

That's one thing I see on this forum a lot, Benchmade's quality control issues, but have not had the experience first hand whatsoever. Granted I've owned 4 in total, but absolutely every one was top notch. My favorite is my mini orange Ritter and that thing came perfect. It still has the smoothest action out of all my knives.
 
F&F as good as a Chris Reeve? Hey Benchmade makes a good knife but no way. It's all in the very tiny details...no machine marks, cleaner beveled edges, cleaner jimping, etc. I actually like some of Benchmade's designs, such as the griptilian, more than CRKs but you have to give the nod to CRK for their tight tolerances.

I own a Umnumzaam, 25 and a Ti-Lock and this 551-1 while made different has similer F&F. It is a major step up from a regular Grip. Scales line up perfectly, no grind marks or sharp edges, perfectly centered blade etc. I don't have a caliper, and can't measure tolerances, but just from feel and use....it is damn close.
